Excelsior’s Commons and regional trail
Choose a waterfront destination
The city lists picnic areas, playgrounds, swimming beaches, tennis, baseball, a bandshell, restrooms and docking facilities at the Commons and Port. The variety helps explain the park’s role as a gathering place, but a facility list does not confirm swimming conditions or a particular excursion service today.
Use the correct trail
Three Rivers describes the Lake Minnetonka Regional Trail as a 15.8-mile aggregate-surfaced route from Hopkins to Carver Park Reserve, passing through Excelsior. It is different from the Dakota Rail Regional Trail and should not be described as a paved loop around the lake.
Check the details for your activity
Use the city and trail operator’s current information for closures, reservations and conditions. Verify docking eligibility, excursion schedules and beach status separately. If accessibility is important for your visit, ask about the exact route and facility rather than inferring access from a park’s general description.
