The incorporated village
The city’s historical account dates village incorporation to 1912. That is a governmental milestone, distinct from the area’s longer human history. A short municipal guide should not turn the incorporation date into a claim about the first people to live here.
From the bay to the railroad
The city describes an earlier business center on Cooks Bay and a later shift toward the railroad. It also identifies Tonka Toys as an important local employer. These changes offer a useful way to understand how transportation and industry influenced the town’s development.
Changing boundaries
The municipal account records Three Points annexation in 1959, Island Park and Halstead Heights in 1960, and Shadywood Point in 1963. Historical boundaries therefore differ from today’s map.
